2019 St. Jude
Dream Home
Giveaway -
San Antonio, TX
One of the first projects I was able to work on was the 2019 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. I was on the design team with a local San Antonio design firm called N.R. Interiors. Our team was responsible for the design selections, collaborating with contractors and vendors, such as Sea World San Antonio, and collecting the donated time and materials for the project. As an intern I was able to assist with these design selections, attend meetings with the clients and vendors, prepare schedules, drawings, and more!

When I was in the office, it was common to help put together material boards, FF&E schedules, and update drawings as needed in AutoCAD. However, I was able to take part in various activities outside of the office too. I often visited showrooms to select samples for our team to approve and present to the client. Site visits were also conducted regularly to ensure the project was on track.

The images on the side show the St. Jude Dream Home under construction. Since this was one of my first projects, I found it insightful to be apart of these site visits. It is through experiences like these that I was able to learn industry jargon, and how to collaborate with individuals from other backgrounds in the design and construction industry.
Since I began work on the St. Jude Dream Home as a summer intern, I had to take a few months off to return to my university for Fall semester. My team was kind to let me see the final project when I returned home over my fall break.

What made this project significant was that it confirmed design was the right industry for me. I found it inspiring to see a group of individuals who had no prior knowledge of each other, come together to help a family in need.
